Long term physical health conditions like COPD, Diabetes, Cancer and Chronic Pain can cause symptoms of Depression and Anxiety. Depression and Anxiety can then negatively impact on the physical health problems. The emotional and physical struggles people with long term conditions face, often need specialist support.
In response to the evidence that emotional and physical health needs are related, VitaMinds have a specific long-term conditions pathway (IAPT-LTC which stands for ‘Improving Access to Psychological Therapies for long-term conditions’). At VitaMinds we are focused on helping you to ‘live better’ with your long-term condition. Most of our interventions are based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). CBT is an evidence-based, therapeutic approach, which looks at the interactions between our thoughts, behaviours, physical symptoms, and emotions.
The therapists who work in the integrated IAPT-LTC team receive specialist training and supervision for working with people who have both long-term physical health conditions and emotional challenges such as stress, sleep problems, low mood or anxiety. The integrated IAPT-LTC team is a small group of therapists and psychological wellbeing workers who are extremely passionate about helping individuals with health problems and emotional challenges.
