Tennis Elbow Success from Acupuncture & Physio

New case study published in an academic journal shows evidence for the success of acupuncture and physiotherapy management when treating a 41 year old manual workeer suffering from persistent tennis elbow.  The patient initially reported a 4 month history of pain and reduced use of his left arm.

This case study was published by the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and shows how acupuncture combined with typical physiotherapy successfully treated a patient with ‘tennis elbow’.

The Treatment

‘Multimodal Physiotherapy included:

  • Specialist physio education and advice for ‘lateral epicondyalgia’ or tennis elbow
  • Advice and strategies for activity modification to avoid aggravating the condition allowing time for healing
  • Provision of an elbow brace
  • Mobilisation techniques ‘hands-on’ physiotherapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Home exercise programme of tendon loading exercises

The Results

Success from 5 treatments in 6 weeks:

  • Functional score (PSFS as rated by the patient) increased from 3/10 to 9/10, where 10/10 is full & normal use of left arm
  • Grip strength, pain free, increased from 1.4kg to 40.1kg
