If you suffer from ear infections you will know how extremely painful they can be.  Some unlucky sufferers have symptoms that last beyond a few days and may also feel dizzy, nauseous and experience vertigo or hearing loss.  Sometimes persistent ear infections can cause inflammation deep within the inner ear.  If this happens, the structures that are commonly affected are the Labyrinth, causing ‘Labyrinthitis’ and the Vestibular Nerve, causing ‘Neuritis’.  Specially trained Vestibular Physiotherapists are experts at helping to reduce these symptoms and restore your sense of wellbeing.

Viral infections of the inner ear can interfere with the function of the Vestibular system.  When this happens, common symptoms include discomfort such as:

  • Sudden onset of severe vertigo
  • Loss of balance that lasts for several hours to days

Other symptoms may include:

  • Nausea and sickness
  • Some hearing loss maybe experienced with labyrinthitis
  • Imbalance and dizziness, particularly on fast head movements or turning, that can persist for several weeks to months

Vestibular Rehabilitation Program prescribed by a specially trained Vestibular Physiotherapist is very effective in improving the recovery of these conditions.  We have South London clinics that can provide Vestibular Rehabilitation in the Crystal PalaceOrpington and Central Bromley areas.
