Group supports

A problem shared can feel like a weight off your shoulders. Supportive and informative, our groups offer an opportunity to meet other people with similar experiences, whilst receiving information and treatment from experienced therapists and practitioners.

How does it work?

All our workshops and groups use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a treatment based on scientific evidence used to address anxiety and depression. For some people, CBT groups can be as effective as individual therapy.

“I’ve learnt so much from this group, I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect but the staff were excellent, so knowledgeable and I have learnt so much. It really helped to be with others who felt the same way as I did.”

It’s normal to feel nervous about attending a group or workshop, especially if you haven’t been before. Don’t worry; no one is required to speak in front of the group unless they want to. However, we do know that people who actively engage with the group and get involved in the activities tend to benefit more from the treatment.

Our groups and workshops aim to be gentle, practical and effective. We hope that you’ll go home at the end of the session with the newfound skills and confidence to handle problems more effectively. We always encourage people to try a group or workshop and we’re here to support you if and when you do.

We’ve had great feedback from lots of people who have attended groups. This includes those that weren’t sure that the groups would be that helpful for them.

WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING

Group Courses

  • Group course for depression: ‘Behavioural Activation’

Feeling down? Struggling to sleep? Finding it hard to concentrate? If that sounds familiar then keep reading.

This 6-week group course helps you understand depression and what fuels it. The main focus is on the link between what you do and how you feel. The course teaches basic skills in how to improve your mood, solve problems and get back on track.

Behavioural Activation is an effective treatment for depression that’s been shown to work very well in groups. The things we experience in depression such as tiredness, loss of interest or lack of pleasure in doing things can lead to inactivity. This inactivity keeps depression going or makes it worse. We soon stop doing simple everyday tasks. Little things get overlooked and quickly start to build up until they feel overwhelming or insurmountable. Behavioural Activation works to overcome depression by reversing this inertia. By changing what you do, you can change the way you feel.

  • Group course for stress and worry

Feeling overwhelmed? Easily stressed? Worrying too much?

This 6-week group course aims to help you better understand stress and worry. It provides management techniques and strategies to reduce daily stresses and concerns.

  • Group course for stress and low mood within long-term health conditions

Do you have a long-term health condition? Maybe it’s a heart problem? Perhaps it’s diabetes or arthritis? It’s not uncommon to feel low, anxious or depressed with conditions like these. Don’t panic, we can provide help in understanding and managing these feelings.

This 6-week group facilitates reflection and discussion around the impact of your physical condition. It provides information and support to:

    • Learn how to pace yourself and prevent unhelpful ‘boom & bust’ patterns
    • Learn how to manage stress, anxiety and low mood
    • Gain support from peers with similar experiences and health problems
  • Sleep workshop

Having trouble sleeping? This one-day workshop will help you find out why. After identifying the cause of the problem, you’ll learn new ways to get a good night’s sleep.
