  • What is a Dietitian?
A Dietitian is a University degree-qualified expert in food and nutrition.  Dietitians translate the latest nutrition science into understandable and practical eating and lifestyle advice.  Dietitians can provide medical nutrition therapy for a range of medical conditions, as well as provide advice for the prevention of disease.   Dietitians are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council to ensure they are competent and always practice to the highest standard.  Only dieticians registered with the HCPC can use the protected title ‘dietician’ in the UK.

Dietitians are … up-to-date with the latest research and can help make sense of the many confusing nutrition messages out there.

Dietitians help … people to implement behaviour changes to improve all aspects of their health from diet to activity levels and sleep patterns.

Dietitians are not … the ‘food police’, in fact they love food and they want you to enjoy it too.

Dietitians don’t … put people on diets, in fact restrictive dieting is known to lead to weight gain in the long term, the very opposite of their purpose.
