What is Physio Direct?

PhysioDirect is a telephone assessment with a chartered physiotherapist who’ll assess you over the phone to understand your needs and expectations and assist in providing advice and guidance about your condition or agreeing on an appropriate next step in your care. This may be an onward referral to an exercise class, hospital or face to face physiotherapy. This service is all about treating issues as soon as possible whether it be easy-to-do home exercises or face-to-face consultations.

PhysioDirect (telephone consultations) are not suitable for patients who require an interpreter, do not have a telephone or are hard of hearing/deaf. These patients can self-refer using our online form and will be booked directly into a face-to-face consultation or offered an option for an email consultation.

How does it work?

If you feel that you would benefit from our services and are registered with a Bromley GP and you would like to self-refer, all you have to do is call our dedicated Customer Service Team on 01689 88 77 10.

Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. Outside of these times, you will be able to leave a voicemail and we will return your call as soon as we can.

When you call, a member of our team will register you on our system and take some contact details to arrange your PhysioDirect telephone assessment. It would be helpful if you could have your NHS number to hand.

You will then be called on a date and time agreed with you by one of our physiotherapists who specialises in musculoskeletal conditions.

Your Telephone Assessment

If for any reason you are unable to take our phone call at the agreed time, please inform us in advance where possible.

Letting us know in advance keeps waiting times low for yourself and other patients and helps to reduce costs to the NHS.

If you need to change your assessment date or time or no longer wish to be assessed, please contact us at least 24hrs prior to your appointment so it can be offered to someone else.

Can’t contact us by telephone?

PhysioDirect (telephone consultations) are not suitable for patients who require an interpreter, do not have a telephone or are hard of hearing. Only these patients can self-refer using our online form and will be booked directly into a face-to-face consultation or offered an option for an email consultation.

What Happens Next?

Be ready to be contacted by our physiotherapist at the agreed time on the telephone number you provided. Our physiotherapist will ask you several questions to understand the impact on your activities and work. This is to help them understand your problem and with you agree on a treatment plan from one of the options below:

The physiotherapist may give you advice over the phone which may be followed up with information and exercises being sent to you by post or email.
The physiotherapist may decide the best way to deal with your problem is to see a physiotherapist or to attend an exercise group. An appointment will then be arranged at the end of the appointment.
The physiotherapist may decide that physiotherapy is not appropriate for you, if necessary you may be advised to make an appointment to see your GP.
