Our Services

Our evidence-based, stepped care approach for common musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions optimises return to work and makes a real difference to people’s lives by reducing symptoms and restoring function. Following a Task Analysis, where we work to understand the specific role related risks affecting an employee, we fully assess and case manage each individual through to discharge.

With different options available we ensure the most effective and cost efficient treatment is accessible to our clients, and their employees. The aim is to reduce organisations costs associated to MSK sickness absence, by assisting employees back to work, as quickly and safely as possible, but also taking into consideration a long-term support plan.

Our MSK service is one of the few accredited by SEQOHS. Vita Health Group aligns with NICE guidelines and uses a biopsychosocial approach with integrated case management and a fully work-focussed occupational health management plan

Our service combines the latest APP based digital technology combined with a Nationwide network of quality assured clinics (as well as the ability to offer onsite physiotherapy if required)  to provide the best possible patient journey and outcomes.

Face to Face Physiotherapy

Vita Health Group provides National Coverage for Physiotherapy Treatment via a network of over 850 quality assured clinics. The clinics are audited against their facilities and use of evidence-based practice.

Using our current book of business mapped against location data currently 90% of patients can be offered access to physiotherapy within a 5-mile radius, 95% within 10 miles and 99% within 15 miles.

Clients referred for physiotherapy treatment sessions after TCA will be seen for an initial assessment within 2 working days or at the next on-site clinic day of our Physiotherapist concluding that Face to Face treatment is required. A summary of the triage assessment will be issued to the treating physiotherapy to inform their assessment and treatment plan. The assessment comprises a physical clinical evaluation, screening for psychosocial issues and a job demands interview to ascertain current capability to undertake their full role. Based on this information we devise work recommendations or a return to work plan which is underpinned by a proposed treatment plan.

Referrals can be made directly to our Caseflow portal with initial appointment booked on-line or via phone/email to our National Service Centre (NSC) who will contact your employee to arrange a Telephonic Clinical Assessment (TCA or triage call). This is delivered by a UK based Vita Health Group – employed Chartered Physiotherapist. All referrals are supported by our case management service from initial triage through to discharge.

Guided Self-Management

Current best practice suggests that where possible patients should be assessed for serious symptomology and in the absence of such should be reassured and provided with up to date practical advice as per the Vita Health Group Clinical Evidence Guide. In accordance with this evidence it is our experience that in providing an early intervention telephone triage service to Corporate Clients typically 30% of cases can be self-managed with the employee receiving ongoing guidance and support on how to manage their own condition to a recovery without the need to progress to face to face treatment sessions.

For employees, where self-management guidance is deemed appropriate, a specific advice and exercise programme will be selected and issued to the employee via Vita Health Group App (screenshots above), email or post (colleagues’ preference) along with any relevant evidence-based advice packs and necessary equipment as appropriate.

The advice which is administered is again based on best practice. The emphasis is on the following aims:

    1. Reassure, that no serious medical issue is present
    2. De-medicalise by avoiding using unhelpful and inaccurate terms such as “disc bulges”
    3. Provide support, by giving practical advice on activity and symptom control

The Vita Health Group app provides video exercises to assist recovery prescribed by the Vita Health Group Physiotherapist to ensure the employee knows exactly what exercises to do, how to do them correctly and for how long.

Exercises can also be accessed online with a unique link or Printed PDFs can still also be sent should that be a preference.  The app provides compliance monitoring outcome measurement allowing our physios to support and feedback in ‘real time’ to monitor recovery closely and provide support or progression exactly when needed.

The app also provides motivation and support on a very personal basis helping colleagues build their rehabilitation plan into their day to day lives.

The Physio who undertook the assessment will follow up the patient to ensure progress is expedited and recovery is maximised. Ongoing telephone support enables a collaborative and sustainable approach to recovery working towards the colleague’s (and referrer’s) goals.

Our web chat service provides motivation and support on a very personal basis as and when it is needed. Providing support and feedback in ‘real time’ allows clients to ask questions or check progress with a clinician at the point of need. It also allows clinicians to alter the pathway of care if required, without delay. The App also allows for bespoke preventative campaigns to be directed to specific employee populations.

Case Management

Case management and support will be provided by the Triage physiotherapist for each employee from referral through to discharge regardless of the stepped care pathway taken. This ensures a constant point of contact for employee, line manager and Occupational Health as appropriate.

The Case Management service includes:

  • Initial assessment report and plan
  • Authorisation of a treatment plan (where to be provided by a subcontracted clinic)
  • Authorisation of additional treatment sessions (if required)
  • Production and maintenance of a return to work plan (shared with employee and line manager)

Functional Restoration Programme - Longer Term Chronic Conditions/Absence

Our Functional Restoration Programmes (FRP) are for those individuals who experience persistent or chronic musculoskeletal conditions, such as lower back pain. These conditions severely effect both work and personal quality of life. It is aimed at individuals who haven’t responded to other medical treatments and therapies.

Our experience shows that employees who have prolonged or frequent absence or work restriction benefit from access to this service. Between 3-5% of referrals can benefit from access to this service, as their condition requires more intensive intervention than is provided for by the acute service e.g. psychosocial barriers to recovery, reported longer term activity restrictions or suffering from recurrent or long-term absence from work.

To access the programme each employee undergoes a detailed, four-hour, one-to-one assessment, and if suitable would join the programme comprising education, exercise, cognitive behavioural therapy and work activities to restore capability and confidence to return to full normal duties.

This is a group programme delivered for one day per week (5 –6 hours). Participants attend for an average of 6 weeks alongside a graduated return to work plan. The nature of this type of group program requires a reasonable volume of cases for classes to be cost effective, sustainable and beneficial and typically we achieve this by running classes with patients from multiple clients.

The programme helps restore capabilities and confidence of individuals to rehabilitate to an enhanced level of function.

A video outlining this service can be viewed by here.

84% Of those completing FRP are discharged on full discharge on full duties

Display Screen Equipment (DSE)/Work Station Assessments

Vita Health Group can complete in-depth, one-to-one DSE assessment for employees where it is felt that their workstation is contributing to their condition. All assessments are completed by chartered physiotherapists or sports rehabilitators, who will assess the employee’s workstation, make immediate changes where possible, and provide a detailed report to their employer identifying not only the problems identified, but what exactly was modified during the assessment, and sensible recommendations on how to improve things further if required, such as additional or alternative equipment. Robust and objective measures identify where and how likely employees are to develop musculoskeletal disorders.

Vehicle Assessments

Driving position can be a risk factor in the development of musculoskeletal disorders, and as remote working increases it is important that this is not overlooked. Vita Health Group use chartered physiotherapists and sports rehabilitators to complete vehicle assessments at our client’s site, or if more convenient from one of RHW 10 centres across the UK. During the assessment, we will optimise the employee’s driving position, and compile a detailed report to the employer stating what was found during the assessment and sensible recommendations on how to assist the employee further (if required) through the provision of additional equipment or recommendation of a different work vehicle.

Ergonomic Consultancy

Identifying problems before they occur is not only a moral obligation but can also result in significant financial savings. Vita Health Group have worked with a range of different large corporate companies to identify the root cause of musculoskeletal disorders and identify where processes and work tasks can be streamlined and made more efficient. We are also able to complete in-depth risk assessments to ensure that employers implement effective and efficient control measures to prevent employees having accidents or injuries at work.
